Add California Bay leaves to soups as a spice, using 1⁄2 the amount recommended in conventional recipes. NOTE Commercial Bay leaves are from the Bay Laurel tree, Laurus nobilis, native to Asia Minor and cultivated throughout the Mediterranean region.
