Whiteleaf manzanita is commonly found in dense, rigid stands in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, often growing in red clay or decomposed granite. It usually grows to 4’ – 8’, but will occasionally reach 15’ tall [17]. The deep red to burgundy bark contrasts dramatically with the silvery, green-grey leaves that appear white in the moonlight. Good companions for Whiteleaf Manzanita are pine, oak and madrone trees.
