Western Blue Flag is a deciduous, 1 ½’ to 3’ perennial with bluish green, upright foliage and pale lavender to white flowers that extend above the foliage in late spring and early summer. It is native to moist meadows in an extensive area, ranging from the Sierra Nevada to the Dakotas, from the Yukon to northern Mexico, and elevations from 2,000 to 12,000 feet. [18]

Plant Western Blue Flag in a sunny location, and give regular summer water, reducing irrigation slightly after bloom to encourage partial dormancy. [20]
